While having no formal education or training Dennis Yesner has immersed himself in art through books, museums and film and taken from that inspiration to create his own uniquely modern calligraphy and abstract drawings. Yesner uses charcoal, pastels and colored pencils to create his drawings. He uses these materials because it allows him to have total control over his artistic energy. A native of Philadelphia, Yesner was well known in his earlier years as an abstract painter using acrylics to do large flowing works inspired by the late Jackson Pollack. As times got tough and Yesner needed to change the mediums he worked with he transitioned into woodworking, creating tables using all natural material to create functional yet incredibly artistic furniture. He exhibited his tables at the Philadelphia Furniture show in the 1990's. He then began channeling his creativity into landscape design and began working as a freelance landscape designer in the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs. When that became an unstable way to make a living he took a position as a grounds keeper for a large estate in Paoli, while still creating art at home. On December 22nd, 2009 Dennis Yesner's wife Deborah died of complications resulting from a brain aneurysm. This experience catapulted Yesner into a furry of creativity where he focused his grief and anxiety into his art and at the age of 63 is now ready to share that with the world.
